从长远视角审视，Hybrid methods, as their name suggest, make use of short reads to correct errors in long reads. By finding similar regions between the short and long reads we can use the higher accuracy of short reads to correct the long ones. This is implemented in many pieces of software proovread82, Jabba83, PBcR84 or LoRDEC85. Short reads can also be used to polish long read assemblies with tools like Pilon86. The first complete human genome was assembled and polished using many different sequencing technologies including PacBio, ONT and Illumina technologies4.

The ntEdit polisher78 also filters out rare \(k\)-mers to correct errors. The Arrow79 and Nanopolish80 polishers correct the assembly using the raw PacBio and ONT long reads respectively, and Racon81 can use bot types of long-reads to polish assemblies.
